Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiac Surgery department as a Band 4 Patient Pathway Coordinator. The role will involve supporting a diverse team of consultant surgeons, registrars and nurse practitioners to facilitate robust and effective outpatient and inpatient pathways. You will work closely with colleagues in both clinical and non-clinical capacities across the Cardiovascular directorate and beyond, as well as colleagues from external hospitals. Cardiac Surgery provides adult cardiac surgery to around 1200 patients per year from London and the South East of varying case mix and complexity, with the exception of transplantation. There are eleven cardiac surgeons who operate and the department is recognised for surgical specialist training. The role is based at St Thomas Hospital, where the service is administered and where the consultants, nurses and wards are based. The post holder will provide a range of administrative support to the multi-disciplinary clinical team, especially working very closely with cardiac surgeons and a team of Nurse Practitioners. Other duties include processing clinical letters, answering the telephone and dealing with patient queries. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, efficient, resourceful and able to communicate clearly and effectively. They must be able to prioritise their workload efficiently and stay calm and autonomous in a busy office environment. You will work with two other Patient Pathway Coordinators and provide cover during leave and sickness absences. The role will involve working with sensitive, confidential information, and the successful candidate will be expected to maintain the Trust’s standards and policies at all times. Previous NHS and secretarial experience is desired, but not essential. Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation. We are among the UK’s busiest, most successful foundation trusts. We provide specialist care for patients including heart and lung, cancer and renal services as well as a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Lambeth and Southwark. We have one of the National Institute for Health Research’s biomedical research centres, established with King’s College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities. As well as excellent typing skills and a high standard of computer literacy, the successful candidate will be self-motivated, efficient, resourceful and able to communicate clearly and effectively.
